Hearst Tower wins 'Best New Skyscraper' award

Hearst Tower in New York City has been crowned 'Best New Skyscraper of the Year for Design and Functionality' by Emporis, the Internet site dedicated to recording skyscrapers throughout the world. Hearst was selected from a pool of 467 eligible buildings (those of at least 100 metres in height), which were completed internationally in 2006. The jury, comprised of 27 persons from 10 countries, cited Hearsts innovative approach to structural expression, its energy-efficient features, its approach to the preservation of the older Hearst Building, and its stunning interior spaces as key reasons for its success.

The Silver Award for second place went to The Wave in Gold Coast City, near Brisbane and the Bronze Award goes to Eureka Tower in Melbourne.
