Celebrating the graduates of 2019-2020

Following a two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Foster + Partners’ recent graduates presented their academic projects and ideas at the annual Graduate Show. This is always a fantastic opportunity for those taking part to showcase their work to Norman Foster and the practice’s senior leadership team.

Norman Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman, Foster + Partners, reflects on this year’s show and congratulates the graduates of 2019-2020.

"Given the global uncertainty of the past few years, there is no better time to gather together, exchange ideas and align our thinking as a practice. The Graduate Show is a wonderful opportunity to do just that, while celebrating the ongoing success of our recent graduates. Every year, I find myself feeling inspired and renewed by the work on display. It’s no secret that I call it the most important event in our social calendar. The diverse range of creative projects reinforces my optimism for a brighter and more thoughtful future.

As ever, the show included work which spans the disciplines of architecture, industrial design, structural and environmental engineering. Projects are located across the globe and explore the potential for life on other planets.

This year, there was a particular emphasis on technological and material inventions which contribute to more sustainable and liveable environments. I was also struck by the reflections on how we might restore water-related ecosystems and breathe new life into historic structures. Every project makes a valuable contribution to the wider conversations that we are having across the practice, to understand how we can learn from the past and creatively embrace the challenges of the future."

We congratulate the 34 graduates of 2019-2020.
