Celebrating 25 years of the Graduate Show

This year marks 25 years of Foster + Partners’ Graduate Show. The annual event brings together recent graduates from the practice’s international offices, to display and discuss their university projects with Norman Foster, senior members of the team, and their peers.

Commenting on this year’s show, Norman Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman, Foster + Partners, said: “The Graduate Show is one of the most eagerly awaited events in our social calendar, providing us with an opportunity to align our thinking as a team and learn more about each other as individuals… It was a great privilege to hear from so many of our recent graduates, whose incredibly thoughtful and innovative work reinforces my optimism for the future.”

The Graduate Show reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the practice, including work by architects, urban and landscape designers, interior designers, structural and environmental engineers, amongst others. Every year, the show is organised by the graduates themselves, who manage the floor planning, design wall plaques, create posters to promote the exhibition, and coordinate a catalogue to showcase the work.

Reflecting on her experience of taking part in the Graduate Show in 2015, Loukia Iliopoulou, Partner and Urban Designer, who started as an intern with the practice, said: “I’ve always admired this brilliant initiative that provides new members of staff with an opportunity to present their design thesis to fellow colleagues and senior partners. It felt like my debut and introduction to the office – and I received some sharp questions and concise feedback, which I cherish to this day.”
