Celebrating twenty-five years in Sydney

Foster + Partners has been working on projects in Sydney for over two decades.

Since 1997, the practice has incorporated the latest digital technologies within design processes to efficiently share ideas across different time zones and deliver an integrated vision. This innovative way of working helped to prepare the practice for the rapid shift to remote working during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Foster + Partners’ Muir Livingstone has lived and worked in Sydney for a number of years, observing the city’s evolution first-hand: “Sydney is a dynamic city that is going through a period of immense growth, particularly in terms of its infrastructure projects. Foster + Partners has contributed to the city’s development, designing a number of stations for the new Sydney Metro and a vibrant mixed-use over station development.”

The practice has completed Deutsche Bank Place, Lumiere Apartments and Duo Central Park, which have all had a significant impact on the form of Sydney’s Central Business District and the historic area of Chippendale. The team is currently working on Parkline Place, Barangaroo Metro Station and Salesforce Tower, Sydney’s highest commercial tower that recently topped out.

The city has also had a personal impact on members of the Foster + Partners team. Senior Executive Partner, Gerard Evenden, named his daughter Sydney after the practice won the Deutsche Bank Place competition in 1997. Having worked on a number of key projects in Sydney, he reflects on the last twenty-five years and anticipates a positive future in the city: “Working in Sydney continues to be an incredibly rewarding experience and we look forward to collaborating with our clients on the upcoming stages of their projects - making a positive contribution to the city’s urban fabric.”
