Foster + Partners Industrial Design launches two outdoor furniture collections with ESCOFET

Foster + Partners Industrial Design has launched two outdoor furniture collections with ESCOFET, a Barcelona-based company that works with urban elements and architectural concrete to transform cities and promote the use of public space. Developed in conversation with the practice’s landscape and urban design teams, Tiers and Gather offer different levels of ergonomic support and privacy to meet a range of needs. The durable elements are made from ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) for a sleek and thin profile.

Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design, Foster + Partners, said: “We are delighted to be launching our first collection with ESCOFET. With their understated elegance and refined profiles, Tiers and Gather provide an array of creative options for architects, urban planners, and landscape designers.”

Tiers

The Tiers family is made up of a bench (45 centimetres), table or perch (74 centimetres), high table (105 centimetres) and low stool. These elements can be used individually or arranged alongside one another to create different configurations for socialising, relaxing, or working. The design team worked with 3D printers to generate a seamless transition between the leg and seat, while the pillowed edges enhance comfort and allow for drainage. All three linear elements share similar mould components.

Gather

Rooted in the idea of creating more private and relaxed outdoor areas, Gather is a modular seating system that can take many forms. A range of linear, concave, convex, and end modules are combined to create different configurations, including enclosed pocket spaces, straight benches, or seating around green islands. A branch-like spine forms the backrest, gradually tapering to a thickness of just 40 millimetres. Gather is available in four different concrete colours – grey, black, white and beige – with a bespoke aluminium armrest.
