Foster + Partners opens oceanfront Los Angeles studio

Foster + Partners has opened its new Los Angeles studio on Ocean Front Walk in Venice Beach. This is the practice’s second studio in California, following the opening of San Francisco in 2017, which was established during the Apple Park project.

As a global practice, Foster + Partners is looking to position itself at the heart of the cities it designs for. David Summerfield, Senior Executive Partner at Foster + Partners said: “L.A. has an innovative and pioneering spirit, which we feel aligns with the practice’s ethos. We are delighted to have a studio in this unique, creative city and look forward to building on our relationships here.”

The new Los Angeles studio is a bright three-storey loft, with views of the Pacific Ocean. Marc Guberman, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners and the L.A. studio lead, described the space as “uplifting” with a “calming palette of sand, water, sun and sky.” He added: “We see the new studio as a tool that allows us to expand our thinking and push the boundaries of design. From day one, we’ve kept the doors open - we want to be an active part of the creative community in Venice Beach.”

The growing team works closely with both the San Francisco and London studios to develop an integrated vision for their projects, the majority of which are located in the state of California. Amongst other projects, the L.A. studio is currently working on One Beverly Hills, a mixed-used urban resort in the heart of Beverly-Hills; the BART extension in San Francisco, comprising of 4 new stations and their transit-oriented development masterplans; the vision plan for California High-Speed Rail, a 820 mile and 24 station network connecting the state; as well as a research and development project with NASA that focuses on lunar outfitting the tools, furniture and systems that life on the Moon will require.
