Pritzker Prize laureate Lord Norman Foster teams with legendary hotelier Robert Burns to create Fosters first resort - The Knolls, Singapore. The developer, Millenia Hotel Private Limited (MHPL), an associate company of Pontiac Land Private Limited, connected these outstanding leaders to design a modern luxury resort minutes away from the city.
We are privileged to bring together the best in luxury hospitality and in sustainable architecture to design The Knolls, says Kwee Wei Lin, Director of MHPL. Mr. Burns remarkable ability to understand and anticipate new luxury trends is an invaluable contribution to this S$150 million resort. His outstanding achievements in designing the worlds best hotels include the Four Seasons Milan, Villa Feltrinelli, The Regent Hong Kong, Four Seasons Jimbaran Bali, and the Four Seasons New York, which he developed with I. M. Pei.
When Mr. Burns visited The Knolls, he envisioned a jewel hidden in an ambrosial woodland, yet minutes away from the city. This award recipient of the prestigious Travel &Leisures "Hotelier of the World" and DHL's "International Businessman of the Year" award shared, hotels are havens to get away to; you hop on your magic carpet, leave your business cares and enter into a refreshing retreat. There is nowhere else nearby where one can experience this magic other than at The Knolls.
In co-creating this magical and rare experience of luxury in a tropical rainforest, Lord Foster and his team draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the site and the existing historic architecture built in the 1930s. As illustrated by recent projects for the Reichstag and the Great Court of the British Museum, Foster and Partners are renowned for skillfully harmonising the contemporary with the historical.
The new architecture will follow the contours of the site and be nestled within a beautiful mosaic of trees. The design team has dedicated special attention to preserve the national heritage trees and other mature trees that are speckled throughout the 1 million square feet of lush foliage. Fosters design of the villas and suites will also incorporate a series of sophisticated environmental measures that include natural ventilation and cooling.
The Knolls will cater to discerning guests who appreciate the finest architecture and service, and also the convenience of being minutes from the city. MHPL will select a hotel management company renowned for their luxurious and personalised service to take care of their guests. At The Knolls, guests can enjoy the full services and top security provided by a luxury resort for both a short and long-term duration. Through a lattice of indigenous trees, guests can also enjoy glimpses of the sea, 36-hole golf course, and the city.
